Log in to Coinbase
Go to coinbase.com and sign in.
Navigate to API settings
Go to Settings → API → New API Key (Advanced Trade API).
Create a read-only API key
Select "View" permissions only. Do NOT select "Trade" or "Transfer" permissions.
Note the API key name and secret
Coinbase uses an API key name and private key (passphrase). Copy both immediately — the secret is only shown once.
Connect in Taxxy
In Taxxy, go to Wallets → Add Exchange → Coinbase and paste your API key name and secret.

Limited API history for older accounts
Coinbase's API may only return a limited history for accounts opened before 2020. If you're missing older transactions, use the CSV export method which gives access to your full account history.
Coinbase vs Coinbase Advanced Trade
Coinbase rebranded its pro trading interface as 'Advanced Trade' in 2023. Both the regular interface and Advanced Trade use the same account and API credentials — Taxxy imports from both seamlessly.
Coinbase Earn and Learning Rewards
Coinbase offers crypto rewards for completing educational tasks (Coinbase Learn & Earn) and for staking. These are imported as income transactions at FMV when received.

Why is my Coinbase API history incomplete?
Coinbase's API has historically had limitations for older accounts. If transactions are missing, use the CSV export from Settings → Statements → Generate Report, which provides complete account history.
Does Taxxy import Coinbase staking rewards?
Yes. Coinbase staking rewards (ETH staking, USDC rewards, etc.) are imported as income transactions and included in your tax report.
How do I import Coinbase Advanced Trade history?
Coinbase Advanced Trade uses the same API and CSV as regular Coinbase. Connect once and Taxxy imports both simple buy/sell history and Advanced Trade orders.
Are Coinbase Earn rewards taxable?
Yes. Coinbase Earn rewards (and Coinbase Learn & Earn quiz rewards) are generally taxable as income at the FMV when received. Taxxy imports and classifies these automatically.
